Mark Kovalevich is the founder and owner of GotRot, a Washington contractor specializing in dry rot, moisture-related damage, and structural home repairs across Greater Seattle, the Eastside, and Snohomish County.
A third-generation carpenter, Mark founded GotRot in 2023 after repeatedly seeing relatively small moisture problems turn into much larger structural repairs when the source of the damage was missed. His work focuses on finding out why wood failed, how far the damage extends, and what needs to change so the repair addresses more than the visible rot.
GotRot's work now includes dry rot repair, wood framing, siding, decks, roofing, water leaks, windows and doors, and crawl space repairs.
ABOUT ME
I grew up around carpentry, so I learned early that damaged wood is usually only part of the story. You can replace a rotten board and make everything look good again, but that repair does not mean much if water is still getting into the same area. That is the way I approach dry rot today. I want to know where the moisture came from, what it reached, and whether there is concealed damage behind the material we can see. A photograph can show me that something is wrong, but it cannot tell me everything happening inside a wall, below a deck connection, or behind siding.
I started GotRot because I kept seeing homeowners deal with repairs that addressed the damaged material without really solving the reason it failed. A small leak around a window or roof can become a much larger framing problem when it continues unnoticed.
Our projects have expanded well beyond dry rot, but the approach has stayed the same. We inspect first, open things up when the scope requires it, and build the repair around what is actually happening at the property rather than making assumptions from the surface.
