ABOUT ME
The first thing I want to understand on a moisture-related project is where the water is coming from. Replacing damaged wood is important, but it is only one part of the repair.
A crawl space is a good example. A new vapor barrier will not solve water being directed toward the foundation, and replacing one damaged joist will not solve an active plumbing leak. The repair has to match the problem. The same thing happens around windows, siding, decks, and other exterior connections. Sometimes the damage we see when we arrive is several feet away from the place where water actually entered. Opening the affected area and understanding that path can completely change the repair scope.
I want homeowners to understand what we found and why we are recommending a particular repair. The goal is to make sure the work addresses the condition that caused the damage in the first place.
