I had a really miserable experience with Granite Shop of Madison. I'm building a home and paid for the countertops directly with my funds, as it was an allowance item. Initially, things were fine. Then, the CSR handling my quote refused to answer several simple pricing questions. They were easy questions too, like "how much extra for a matte finish". She finally confessed that they wouldn't share the pricing with the person paying for it. Instead, they would only answer my questions by burying them deep in a 6 page bid sent to only to the builder's project manager, even though I was directly paying for the countertops. When the project manager was on vacation, it took me 6 days to get an answer. I respectfully expressed frustration with this, by stating "I give up" after the 4th refused question. Dustin then accused me of being aggressive & dramatic. Because of 3 words. No, refusing to tell a paying customer the prices is aggressive & dramatic (& arrogant). The CSR handling me made a mistake. Rather than own the mistake, the owner went on a pride kick and used me as an example. Even more sleazily, he went behind my back to get my builder's permission first. If you need to ask permission to treat someone badly, that's a good sign it's a bad idea. My builder later admitted they "didn't love" what GSoM had done, although I'm sure Dustin then was extra saccharine on future bids to prove I was the bad guy. His response to negative reviews is always the same version of "we strive to treat every customer well, but if someone doesn't like how we treat them, that's clearly their fault". If someone is building a home & the builder is paying for the countertops, it's fine not to share the prices. But ask someone on the street if it's OK to not tell someone paying a $15K charge the acutal prices behind the charge. They would laugh at you for even considering this normal. All of the other allowance vendors immediately shared pricing. Fortunately, the alternate vendor was AMAZING. I had a wonderful experience with Wisconsin Granite, and recommend you drive just down the road to their much nicer facility. GSoM has less than half the in-stock quartz options I found at Wisconsin Granite, and the prices on them are amazing. I paid the same for beautiful MSI Calacattas & a Cambria Luxury Series island at Wisconsin Granite that GSoM was charging for basic fake Terrazzo (glass chip) countertops. The beauty of the free market is that I paid less & didn't get verbally abused by the owner. Having built 5 homes in Madison now, I can easily say that GSoM is, without a doubt, the worst vendor I've encountered. The. Worst. Madison typically has wonderful trades & vendors for building, so this was a disappointment. They're the ONLY 1 out of 9 allowance vendors on this project that wouldn't share pricing. I was actually going to hire a local design firm but when they told me they recommended GSoM, I knew that was a bad sign & went elsewhere. The ironic thing is that GSoM also lies. He will come on here and say he told me that sometimes customers aren't a fit for all vendors, yet when my builder was CC'd on the email, he said they'd "love to work with me." My builder asked me to try and work with GSoM, but they still were of the opinion that I needed to pay the $15K+ and shut up. GSoM did what they did because he thought there'd be no consequences for them. This review is a consequence, and Dustin, you earned it. (reposted from personal account)

TLDR; A very smooth process start to finish, not a single complaint. Emails were always responded to quickly and talking with staff at the shop while looking through their stock options was extremely pleasant. Information is offered but nobody pushes you into anything. Turn around was quick (only a few weeks) quote was accurate, prices were competitive, and all scheduled appointments were made on time with plenty of communication. Install staff went above basic requirements to ensure no significant difference in countertop height segments. Worked was completely quickly with the finishing details looking good. Tech's were very polite. I'll be back for the next project soon enough.

My experience with Granite Shop of Madison was great. Owner Emerson Mendieta is very customer-service oriented and extremely knowledgeable. Installers masked up without my asking and were very professional, efficient, experienced, and patient in terms of answering questions. I am very pleased with the results in terms of the granite itself (mine was a replacement job so needed to match existing in other areas of the kitchen), fabrication, and installation. In addition, the project was completed at a very fair price. All in all, highly recommend!

From the time we walked into the shop, to the day of installation, The Granite Shop of Madison was fantastic to work with! They have a vast selection of granite to choose from and they helped us through the process every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with how our kitchen and bar countertops turned out.

I had a Granite custom bar top made by them. They did an amazing job on the top, pictures do not show how awesome it is. I told them I would like to pick it up and install it myself. They did not push me to have them install at all. I have been in construction for 30 years and no idea what these guys go through. Installation by ourselves was very difficult at best. That little top weighs well over 300lbs. The Granite Shop of Madison gave me a high quality top at an extremely reasonable price. I had a very small project and they treated my wife and I like we were a high end customer. Very impressed. Tim Wolter

The Granite Shop did an excellent job for us. Selection was easy for quartz, shown to us by a nice woman that listened to what we were looking for. They had alot of slabs in house to view which makes it much easier to select versus a sample piece that may not show true veining and colorations. We also purchased a Blanco sink which is lovely. From picking out quartz to install was about 5 weeks. Communication was excellent and install by Emerson and his assistant was timely, very knowledgeable and cleaned up after themselves. Would highly recommend The Granite Shop. Jim and Linda Mueller

We worked with the Granite Shop to pick out and install all of our granite counter tops for a new house build. While there was an overwhelming supply to choose from, our architect and the Granite Shop were able to steer us to some beautiful pieces within our price range. The sales persons as well as the installers were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend the Granite Shop!
