I had a really miserable experience with Granite Shop of Madison. I'm building a home and paid for the countertops directly with my funds, as it was an allowance item. Initially, things were fine. Then, the CSR handling my quote refused to answer several simple pricing questions. They were easy questions too, like "how much extra for a matte finish". She finally confessed that they wouldn't share the pricing with the person paying for it. Instead, they would only answer my questions by burying them deep in a 6 page bid sent to only to the builder's project manager, even though I was directly paying for the countertops. When the project manager was on vacation, it took me 6 days to get an answer. I respectfully expressed frustration with this, by stating "I give up" after the 4th refused question. Dustin then accused me of being aggressive & dramatic. Because of 3 words. No, refusing to tell a paying customer the prices is aggressive & dramatic (& arrogant). The CSR handling me made a mistake. Rather than own the mistake, the owner went on a pride kick and used me as an example. Even more sleazily, he went behind my back to get my builder's permission first. If you need to ask permission to treat someone badly, that's a good sign it's a bad idea. My builder later admitted they "didn't love" what GSoM had done, although I'm sure Dustin then was extra saccharine on future bids to prove I was the bad guy. His response to negative reviews is always the same version of "we strive to treat every customer well, but if someone doesn't like how we treat them, that's clearly their fault". If someone is building a home & the builder is paying for the countertops, it's fine not to share the prices. But ask someone on the street if it's OK to not tell someone paying a $15K charge the acutal prices behind the charge. They would laugh at you for even considering this normal. All of the other allowance vendors immediately shared pricing. Fortunately, the alternate vendor was AMAZING. I had a wonderful experience with Wisconsin Granite, and recommend you drive just down the road to their much nicer facility. GSoM has less than half the in-stock quartz options I found at Wisconsin Granite, and the prices on them are amazing. I paid the same for beautiful MSI Calacattas & a Cambria Luxury Series island at Wisconsin Granite that GSoM was charging for basic fake Terrazzo (glass chip) countertops. The beauty of the free market is that I paid less & didn't get verbally abused by the owner. Having built 5 homes in Madison now, I can easily say that GSoM is, without a doubt, the worst vendor I've encountered. The. Worst. Madison typically has wonderful trades & vendors for building, so this was a disappointment. They're the ONLY 1 out of 9 allowance vendors on this project that wouldn't share pricing. I was actually going to hire a local design firm but when they told me they recommended GSoM, I knew that was a bad sign & went elsewhere. The ironic thing is that GSoM also lies. He will come on here and say he told me that sometimes customers aren't a fit for all vendors, yet when my builder was CC'd on the email, he said they'd "love to work with me." My builder asked me to try and work with GSoM, but they still were of the opinion that I needed to pay the $15K+ and shut up. GSoM did what they did because he thought there'd be no consequences for them. This review is a consequence, and Dustin, you earned it. (reposted from personal account)

I had excellent service with the Granite shop of Madison. I walked in with my basic square-foot measurements. I received a quote based on several selections. I made my choice, paid a deposit, and set an appointment to get exact measurements. We set an installation date and received a call to get it done ahead of schedule. Jorge and Gerald installed and did an excellent job.

TLDR; A very smooth process start to finish, not a single complaint. Emails were always responded to quickly and talking with staff at the shop while looking through their stock options was extremely pleasant. Information is offered but nobody pushes you into anything. Turn around was quick (only a few weeks) quote was accurate, prices were competitive, and all scheduled appointments were made on time with plenty of communication. Install staff went above basic requirements to ensure no significant difference in countertop height segments. Worked was completely quickly with the finishing details looking good. Tech's were very polite. I'll be back for the next project soon enough.

My experience with Granite Shop of Madison was great. Owner Emerson Mendieta is very customer-service oriented and extremely knowledgeable. Installers masked up without my asking and were very professional, efficient, experienced, and patient in terms of answering questions. I am very pleased with the results in terms of the granite itself (mine was a replacement job so needed to match existing in other areas of the kitchen), fabrication, and installation. In addition, the project was completed at a very fair price. All in all, highly recommend!

From the time we walked into the shop, to the day of installation, The Granite Shop of Madison was fantastic to work with! They have a vast selection of granite to choose from and they helped us through the process every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with how our kitchen and bar countertops turned out.

I had a Granite custom bar top made by them. They did an amazing job on the top, pictures do not show how awesome it is. I told them I would like to pick it up and install it myself. They did not push me to have them install at all. I have been in construction for 30 years and no idea what these guys go through. Installation by ourselves was very difficult at best. That little top weighs well over 300lbs. The Granite Shop of Madison gave me a high quality top at an extremely reasonable price. I had a very small project and they treated my wife and I like we were a high end customer. Very impressed. Tim Wolter

The Granite Shop did an excellent job for us. Selection was easy for quartz, shown to us by a nice woman that listened to what we were looking for. They had alot of slabs in house to view which makes it much easier to select versus a sample piece that may not show true veining and colorations. We also purchased a Blanco sink which is lovely. From picking out quartz to install was about 5 weeks. Communication was excellent and install by Emerson and his assistant was timely, very knowledgeable and cleaned up after themselves. Would highly recommend The Granite Shop. Jim and Linda Mueller

We worked with the Granite Shop to pick out and install all of our granite counter tops for a new house build. While there was an overwhelming supply to choose from, our architect and the Granite Shop were able to steer us to some beautiful pieces within our price range. The sales persons as well as the installers were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend the Granite Shop!

I got kitchen counters from this store in 2021. They had a great selection of granite at various price points. I fell in love with my slab. They communicated well, scheduling was easy. The measurements were spot on. The one thing I didn't like was that the picture that they emailed me for the placement was grainy and the colors that I wanted in certain spots ended up somewhere else. The installers did an awesome job. Overall very positive experience and I adore my counters.

A friend recommended The Granite Shop of Madison to me. I worked with Jim Peterson to purchase a granite bathroom vanity/backsplash/sink. I'm a widow, and my husband used to handle this kind of purchase. I wasn't really looking forward to it. However, these guys know what they're doing. They went the extra mile in a friendly, relaxed way. I also found the price to be very competitive. My friend was right on the money!! The granite vanity/sink and backsplashes are beautiful. Jim explained they take great pride in the quality of their work, and that's so true!

5 stars plus!!!!!! my husband and i purchased granite for the kitchen about two years ago. subsequently i recently marred the finish on one countertop with a cleaning agent. emerson traveled 30 miles to our home and spent over an hour restoring the finish to its original luster. for free!!!!!! where else in america would this happen???!!! this is just a small example of the attention to detail that is exhibited by everyone associated with the granite shop of madison.

A great experience from start to finish. Emerson and Luis have outstanding craftsmanship. The installation of my granite counter tops occurred on time and on budget. They are easy to work with and return phone calls promptly. I love the look of my kitchen counters.

The Granite Shop did a fantastic job helping me pick out and install my kitchen granite. Now years later they came to my home and repaired a problem I was having and they did it for free. Great customer service!!! Emerson, one of the owners, is fantastic and has a great group of employees. I highly recommend the Granite Shop!

Can't say enough good things about this company! We did a total remdel of our main bathroom. We requested a cash and carry vanity top for our contractor to install. We wanted to replicate our existing vanity top and upgrade to quartz. They came out and did the measurements off the existing vanity top and vanity cabinet specs which is not the usual way it is done but they were willing to accommodate us where others would not even consider doing the measurements if they were not going to install it. They fabricated it quickly and it fit like a glove. Absolutely no problems. We got our main bathroom up and running in less time. We would definitely work with them again.

We finally decided to bite the bullet on granite to upgrade our kitchen, which is the focal point of our house. We talked to a few friends in the residential construction industry and every single one of them said that The Granite Shop was the #1 choice for top quality service and stone. That made my decision pretty easy and, let me tell you, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! You need to remember that in this realm you get what you pay for and not all finishing and installation is created equal! Emerson and his team were patient, helpful, responsive and overall amazing to work with. Their installation was impeccable (I am very particular) and I loved the entire process. Emerson even offered to pull out my full slab for me to view before committing to it! Through all of the home remodeling projects we have completed, The Granite Shop has been the most enjoyable companies to work with!

Competitive prices, fast turnaround, but what makes me recommend them is the great service. There was a problem with one of the pieces in our bathroom counter installation, and they had it corrected and installed perfectly in less than 24 hours. They are great communicators and will ensure the job is done right. We'll work with them again on the next bathroom, and won't hesitate to recommend to friends & family.

We recently decided to upgrade our laminate kitchen countertops to quartz and chose the Granite Shop based on the positive reviews and the honest, friendly vibe we got from the owners, Luis and Emmerson. We clearly made the right choice. The process took two weeks from start to finish and could not have been more painless. The end result is nothing short of fantastic: the seam is barely visible, the fit and finish are perfect and the owners were punctual, professional and responsive throughout the process. I continue to recommend the GSOM to all friends and neighbors.

I live in San Francisco, and I bought granite from TGSoM. I called all over the US looking for a specific granite - brown snake - and no one had it. However, TGSoM told me that they used to carry it, but the hadn't had any nice brown snake in years. They called me back when they found some, I ordered three slabs and had them shopped to SF. The granite is gorgeous, and the staff - Emmerson and Luis - stayed in close contact the entire time. From start to finish, the transaction took six months. I will be buying more from them in the future. Thanks, guys!

I was grateful to have a local option to talk to professionals easily (via phone and in person) about a variety of countertop options but I was unimpressed with their administrative abilities. Two examples -- I filled out some initial paperwork to get a quote. I returned again to look at the slabs one more time and when they pulled up my paperwork, they had my contact information attached to another individual's blueprint paperwork, and someone else's blueprint layout attached to mine. Second, after install, when installed cabinet drawers, I saw they written someone else's name under our countertop stone, then crossed it out and wrote our name. They clearly need to upgrade their technology capabilities to avoid these mistakes in the future. I was also frustrated that I had to keep emailing to ask when I'd receive my layout, when I would hear back from scheduling, so I had to keep pushing for that to happen. But in terms of the product, I am pleased with my countertop and overall it was pretty close to my ideal timeline

We chose The Granite Shop because we trusted a job well done from start to finish. This has not been the case and we own some of the responsibility because we are unfamiliar with the process. The other misunderstandings occurred due to unclear communication (or understanding) from the man working the floor at the shop. He convinced us not to use our contractor to install the sink and faucet because he said their guys like to take care of the install. Great, we thought, leave it to the professionals. Now this is our lack of knowledge, because we understood that to mean we would have a sink and faucet that you turn on when the job is done. In fairness, the small print on the contract that followed later noted in small print that a plumber must be hired to complete the install. My mom is older and was operating on the information we received in the shop. Perhaps a call the day before the install to confirm that the plumber was lined up would be a nice touch. Also taking time, particularly during the fabrication visit to note each detail using a checklist, particularly with customers who are new to the process would ensure that major misunderstandings like ours don't transpire. I think The Granite Shop has a nice selection and is a great fit if you do your homework and make sure that you ask questions and clarify along the way. Perhaps dealing directly with the owner and installers is also a good idea.

Working with GSoM was a really miserable experience. Avoid them at all costs. Countertops are an allowance item in my home build & I am responsible for selecting the vendor, making selections & paying for overages. Thus keeping track of the cost is important. Additionally, I AM ACTUALLY PAYNG the countertop vendor directly to offset overages with other allowances. Initially, GSoM seemed friendly, but as soon as I had questions about pricing - poof! Their helpfulness vanished faster than a magician's rabbit. It took me 4 emails of unanswered questions before they said they wouldn't share pricing with me. What this meant was a simple question about the price range for a leathered top required 4 emails with GSoM and then they emailed a full 3-page bid to my builder with separate line items for each question buried deep in the bid. It was so confusing. It was also a hassle. The builder's PM was OOO and it took me 5 days to get an email forwarded after my last question. It is absolutely ludicrous that the person writing the check (or using my CC) to pay for the countertops ENTIRELY with my own funds doesn't get the pricing shared with me directly. Imagine buying anything else and the seller doesn't tell you what it costs. Absolutely ludicrous. They are completely unaware of their cognitive dissonance, wrapped up in a little bubble where the customer is viewed as a "walking wallet" and if you don't play their games, you will get their power trips. GSoM tried to gaslight me by saying I was "dramatic" and "aggressive". Getting frustrated with their refusal to answer questions and expressing that constructively isn't dramatic. And wanting to know the price of something I'm paying for is not aggressive. When I expressed frustration, GSoM said "they'd love to work with me" but also tried to play divide and conquer with my builder by asking them if it was OK to refuse to share pricing, while simultaneously trying to preserve their relationship. Spoiler alert: It didn't work. I informed my builder that GSoM missed a golden opportunity to impress but chose the path of antagonization. I remind the builder of how great the other vendor is every day. I get that some buillders don't want customers to see pricing. You know what GSoM should do in those situations? Not share pricing. You know what they should do when it's an allowance and the customer has visbility to pricing? Share the pricing. You're a small business, not Home Depot, act like it and be flexible to each customer's needs. This is not about you. Speaking of them being a small business: their selection sucks, especialy when it comes to modern quartz selection. They have less than half the number of quartz compared to every other vendor I met with. I was able to get a great price on a beautiful MSI Calacatta Elysio in all of my bathrooms and an amazing Cambria on my island for less than GSoM was charging for very basic quartz. The upside to their hostility was that I got a much better deal at another vendor. I've built four homes and worked with so many wonderful local vendors. GSoM is, without a doubt, the worst. THE. WORST. This was a pure antagonistic power play. GSoM is the only 1 out of 9 allowance vendors on this project that wouldn't share pricing. They could have chosen to delight my builder's customer, but they chose to antagonize me. They'll do it to you. It's not worth the risk. GSoM also lies. He says they politely told me that they didn't want to work with me. Wrong. As I mentioned, when I got frustrated they sent me & my builder an email saying that they'd love to work with me. My builder asked me to try and work with GSoM, but they still didn't want to tell the person paying what the cost was. I truly don't understand their power trip, nor their lies. The only way to change GSoM's treatment is for consequences to happen, so that's why I'm posting this review. Walk, don't run, to a vendor that's not going to play power trip games with customers.
