Bad job horrible attitude . my mom hired Sam to put in a new countertop .I would give zero stars if I could. He did a horrible job cut the backsplash 1/2 inch too short and pieced the counter top together where the stove top and sink are .He did a bad job so you can see a big what looks like a line going down the middle. Also a horrible caulking job. Then he didn't want to redo the backsplash unless he pieced it so he painted the wall without cleaning it and left gaps between the granite and the wall. I now have to hire someone to sand and repaint the walls which was painted before he came to do the counter . The new granite counters were filthy and have scratches in them. He was supposed to come back and redo the paint and caulk and did not show up. My mom called and he sent an employee out who had no clue about what he was supposed to do so he left without doing the job.

We worked with Sam to do a comprehensive and detailed fireplace design. His advice in guidance from the outset were incredibly valuable. It is truly what I would call value engineering. He gave us critical advice in selecting the right size slab to accomplish our objective. When we think about the amount of time and money, we could've wasted getting a beautiful slab that may not have been the right dimensions or had other problems, that is extremely valuable. And then his execution, fabrication and installation look clean and polished.
Sam can really get down into the details of measurements and considerations in the design, architecture and installation with you.
We felt comfortable that we and our home were in solid, reliable, hands the entire time. Any marble installation is too important and costly to take shortcuts. And we feel we got exceptional value with Sam in both the pricing and the level of design guidance that he provided.

We worked with Sam and his amazing crew on our new kitchen counters - they were so timely and did a fantastic job. Sam kept us in the loop constantly and they held their promised timelines. We were so happy that we used them immediately after to install a beautiful fireplace surround. Do not hesitate to hire them.

Omgosh, can I give 10 stars instead of 5! Sam and his team are amazing --kind, patient, honest, hard-workers, experts in their field, reasonable, and do impeccable work. This is the second time we have worked with Sam (he worked with us on a master bath remodel about 18 years ago).
Just today, Sam and his team finished installing our quartzite in our new kitchen remodel and we are over the moon with how it turned out. Sam is an excellent listener and wants to understand exactly what his clients want. He met with us to lay out the stone we picked out, understanding the pattern we wanted, and involved us in the process. He even said we could meet again to lay out the backsplash before installing to ensure we were happy with the flow of the natural stone. He wants you to be happy and it shows! We love, love, love it, and it is because of Sam and his team's attention to detail and excellent work!
Also, another note of why Sam is such a good guy: I had a crack in the marble stepping stone in my masterbath that Sam installed 18 years ago. No questions asked, he sent two guys from his shop to repair and didn't charge me. Is that unreal?! Sam is truly one of the good guys out there! Also, he returns your calls, almost instantaneously. Talk about follow-up!
Thank you, Sam and your team, for being the best in the business!

This is the SECOND time I've had California Marble install countertops in my kitchen. 17 years ago they installed my granite countertops in San Ramon. It was such a great experience that I contacted Sam again when we moved to Oakland. 2 weeks ago he and his crew installed another kitchen for us. There were some challenges... like carrying a 10'x5' quartzite stone slab down 17 stairs!!! Sam and his crew did it again... perfect install... amazing product...careful attention to details. If I could give Sam 10's I would. Hope you decide to use CMS. note: he is super busy... there might be a wait! But SOOO worth it!

Sam and crew at California Marble just finished installing our countertops and we could not be more pleased with his work, knowledge and overall experience. When I called Sam a few months ago, I had no idea what the hell I was doing and he took the time to educate me and answer my endless questions. We finally chose our stone (Quartzite) and Sam was ready to roll right when that happened. He came and took measurements and then like magic, a few days later arrived with the stone perfectly cut and installed in only a few hours. The transformation in the kitchen was unreal! I really appreciate Sam's work, and he's just a super nice guy that will take the time to answer any questions you might have. In the midst of a kitchen remodel with approximately 1,200 to-do items that were stressing me out, Sam was a breath of fresh air and executed the task with flawless service from start to finish. Obviously I highly recommend California Marble & Stone and we will certainly use them again whenever we can.

Thanks thanks thanks!!! Sam and his son helped me solve a problem in my kitchen and Sam advised me on finding matching granite to add a new bar table to an existing kitchen. After we purchased our rental condo (about 4 years ago), I bought all new appliances for the kitchen, but when the refrigerator came it wouldn't fit by a fraction of an inch. I didn't want to get a different fridge but the counters stuck out a little too much on the side. Yikes! I searched around online to see if a granite fabricator could come and shave about half an inch of the side. Everything I saw advised agaInst it. I called several places that said no, and I read a horror story about a woman getting granite dust all over her kitchen. Everything I read said not to cut granite after it has been installed. I called California Marble and talked to Sam. He was friendly and reassured me that they could easily do it. His son came over and quickly cut 1/2 inch off the side without leaving a speck of dust. He covered the surrounding area with plastic and had a helper hold a vacuum nozzle next to the cut. Any dust was in immediately sucked into the vacuum before it could make a mess. Also, the price was very reasonable. I was a surprised how lIttle they charged for excellent service. About two years later I wanted a bar counter installed, and I wanted it to match the current counters but didn't know where to find a matching counter. I searched online and looked at samples in stores. I found a counter that seemed to match and ordered a sample online that matched but other samples of the same granite didn't match?! Being that natural material materials can have Color variations I was afraid to order something then have it arrive not matching. I emailed Sam and he gave me excellent advice for finding the perfect slab to match. I saw the slab in person first in the warehouse to make sure it was perfect before ordering. Sam installed it and now our condo has a beautiful bar counter. It looks really nice and adds counter space. Very pleased customer.

We had such a great experience with Sam, Trevor, and the whole crew! Everyone was efficient and worked really well together. Sam and Trevor recommended several ideas that we went with and are so glad we did! I'm a perfectionist and have an eye for detail that is a curse! To say that we are so happy with their work says a LOT! Our contractor, Greg Muyskens, who is another perfectionist, recommended him. So thankful to all these guys! I'll be posting a picture when the cabinets are finished! By the way, we chose Sandalus in a leathered finish for our peninsula and it's phenomenal!

Sam Slack, his son Trevor, and all the crew are wonderful to work with. I could always reach him on his cell or by e-mail. After 25 years, we finally decided to replace the counters and backsplashes with granite. We interviewed Sam and he had great ideas including using the granite as the backsplash, which eliminated the need for me to find a backsplash that complimented the stone. He was also the only contractor that told me he could cut and install the slabs without having seams in my massive counters. He also has all the required insurances, which is not always the case we discovered. We went to Arizona Tile and found several granites we liked. Sam met us out there and went over the pros and cons of each of our selections until it became clear which one would look best in our kitchen, given how the stone would need to be cut and what we would end up seeing. It was very helpful to have him there helping me to visualize the finished product. And we had yet to sign a contract with him. California Marble & Stone can also do the demo, which not all fabricators do, so it was nice to be working with the same people all the way through. As I was picking out my sinks and faucets, he was available for any size/space questions that I had. He also has a great plumber he works with, Kasey Corrigon, who is now our go to plumber. We had a challenge with the space for the new 48" range, which is less deep than the prior one, leaving a gap behind the new range, but with almost no clearance between the cabinets to get it in and counters on. Sam suggested continuing the granite behind and made a very sturdy shelf for the granite, and built the countertops exactly to the edge of the new range, so now the new range looks like it was made for its space and there is a continuous counter with a cutout for the range. We went to his shop to do the templating with Sam and his son Trevor. When I told Trevor which colors in the stone I liked more, he quickly moved the templates around until I had just the look I wanted. The installation went without a hitch. The massive center island is one piece. The large L shpaed counter is one piece. The bar countertop is one piece. The backsplashes are one piece. There are no visible seams anywhere. I have had nothing but compliments on the new kitchen facelift and how gorgeous the counters are, and that is even before I redo the cabinets! The counters make the old cabinets look so good people thought I had already had them refinished. Sam and his crew were great to work with and I am lucky we found them. They do great quality work at a reasonable price. When it's time to redo the guest bathroom, he's the first call I make.

Can't say enough good things about Sam Slack and his crew from California Marbel and Stone(including Trevor, of course :-)
We had started our kitchen remodel process with another outfit, but just were not comfortable with the vibe we were getting from them. We had been searching for the granite we wanted to us to replace our 17 year old white tile counters. We found the slabs and then found Sam!
He provided tremendous guidance through our design (and decision!) process. And the end results were even better than we had expected!
You get straight talk and 'just the facts' from Sam - he won't sugar coat any issues you might encounter. If there is a problem he will not only let you know, but have a suggestion or two for how to work it out.
Their ability to match the pattern in the counter top to the back splash (in most cases) provided a nice looking flow from the counter up the wall. They did a great job on the tear out of our old tile, cleaning up nicely after that effort.
The Yelp reviews were a big help in making our decision, but Sam really sold us once he came out to the house and walked us through the process.
Nice job guys!

Sam Slack, his son Trevor and the whole crew at California Marble & Stone were an absolute pleasure to work with. Sam came out as scheduled and on time for our initial meeting and got me a quote that was reasonable and fairly priced on the spot. We made the decision to go with Sam because of his Yelp reviews, reputation in the local area and his timeline for turnaround (as we are on a time crunch to complete a 1000 square foot remodel/addition project in 3 months before hosting a family members' wedding rehearsal dinner here in early August). The final installation of the quartz counter tops we ordered turned out amazing!!! They did a great job making adjustments to accommodate multiple farm sinks we have in our kitchen and laundry rooms that turned out great. Besides the final product, which is always the main factor in customer satisfaction besides "timing" and hitting deadlines, Sam could not have been any more accommodating with our schedule. He knew we were on a very tight deadline and although he told us his turnaround time from template to installation was 10 working days, he and Trevor got together after our templating and lo and behold, Sam bumped us to the front of the line and literally had our counter tops in installed 2 days after Trevor took the counter top templates!!! Now that is customer service!!! We could not be any more happy with the service we got from California Marble & Stone. This was way beyond a "5" star experience for us. I would highly recommend Sam Slack and his California Marble & Stone company.

Sam is a very good guy to work with and he has a stellar team. Two guys came to my home today to install a granite vanity top in one of our bathrooms. Ray and Jim were very professional, extremely courteous and very efficient. They were in and out in about an hour and did a first rate job...and also left the bathroom very clean. The price of our granite was terrific and all the rendering was perfect as well. Great place to get interior or exterior stone.

OCD...that's what my wife says I am. Well, with that comes attention to detail. After meeting half a dozen marble fabricators, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sam Slack from California Marble & Stone. Sam knows his stuff and can point out every single detail so you know (up front) what to expect. He is a man of his word...says what he means...and means what he says. There is no BS. Just a straight shooter and incredible professional. We took 9 years to upgrade our kitchen...but it was so worth it. Thanks Sam!

I highly recommend California Marble and Stone to perform your fabrication work. We couldn't be happier with the way our kitchen countertops turned out. The owner, Sam and his son Trevor were very professional throughout our engagement. Their communication was excellent and they delivered a more than quality product on time. The countertops were installed nicely. However, a crack developed on the backsplash and spread to the countertop. I made two appointments for them to return to apply a sealant (versus a new backsplash) and they did not show up. I left several messages and still no response. It is very disappointing to feel that despite a nice installation, once you write the check, there is zero customer service and willingness to finish the job.

Does California Marble & Stone offer cutouts for sinks, cooktops, or other elements?
Yes, like most professional contractors in the market, California Marble & Stone performs cutouts and countertop preparation for various components — both standard and modern. According to our findings, these services are typically included in the overall project estimate. The standard scope usually covers cutouts for sinks (undermount, drop-in, or farmhouse) and holes for faucets or other plumbing fixtures. Additional cutouts — such as for cooktops, hidden or pop-up outlets, built-in wireless chargers, or other accessories — are discussed individually at the project planning and estimating stage.
It’s important to note that while the cutouts and countertop preparation are usually performed by the company, the installation of electrical and plumbing fixtures (such as faucets, outlets, or appliances) may not be included in their scope of work and could require licensed professionals. We recommend clarifying this point when placing your order.
To avoid misunderstandings, ask for a detailed estimate with a breakdown of all services: cutout pricing, installation, and any add-on options. This will ensure project transparency and help you clearly understand what you're paying for.
What guarantees does California Marble & Stone provide for its work?
According to our information and industry practice, California Marble & Stone, like most participants in the ranking, provides a workmanship warranty valid for 1 year from the date of countertop installation. This period is usually specified in the contract. We do not rule out that the company may have extended warranty terms (2 years or more), however, during our research, we did not receive confirmed data from the contractor regarding the duration and scope of its warranty.
The contractor’s warranty covers defects in fabrication and installation, such as uneven or separating seams, leveling and fastening issues, detachment or sagging of an undermount sink, flaws in edge finishing and cutouts, premature failure of seam materials, and cutouts that do not match the approved design. Warranty coverage does not include damage from use (thermal shock/burn marks from hot cookware, chips or cracks caused by impacts), stains and acid etching (for marble), wear due to insufficient maintenance or lack of sealing, natural characteristics of stone (veins, micro-pores, variations in shade/pattern within tolerances), shifts caused by base deformation, or any modifications performed by third parties.
The material warranty is provided by the manufacturer or the official stone supplier. Engineered quartz brands often offer a limited “lifetime” warranty for residential properties (subject to registration and compliance with care guidelines). For sintered surfaces, typical warranty periods range from 10 to 25 years. Natural stone usually does not come with a factory warranty — its quality of fabrication and installation is covered by the contractor’s warranty. The term and scope of the warranty depend on the project and materials — contact California Marble & Stone in any convenient way on this page to get the current terms.
