Ranking of Quartzite Countertop Fabricators & Installers in Oregon 2025-2026: Top Companies for Your New Countertop

Measure the Length and Width of Each Area

• Standard Depth: Countertops along walls typically have a depth of 24 inches.
• Kitchen Island: The width can range from 27 to 36 inches, depending on your preferences.

• Leave 1–1.5 inches of overhang along the edges to make the countertop more user-friendly and comfortable to stand near.

• Account for the dimensions of sinks, cooktops, and appliances. If you have precise measurements for your appliances, include them in your calculations from the beginning.

• Find the area of each section by multiplying the length by the width.
• Add up the areas of all sections to determine the total square footage required for your countertop.

Although quartzite is less porous than marble or granite, sealing helps protect the countertop from stains and moisture, preserving its appearance and longevity. Sealing is typically needed once every 1–2 years. On average, the installation process takes 4 to 8 hours. Quartzite is a hard and durable material, but its high density requires precise tools for cuts and adjustments. The installation time may extend slightly if additional edge finishing or seam work is necessary, as quartzite is more challenging to polish. Factors Affecting Installation Time

1. Design Complexity:
   • Simple, straight countertops are installed faster.
   • Complex shapes with multiple sections and angles require more time.
2. Number of Cutouts:
   • Cutouts for sinks, cooktops, and other built-in elements add time due to the need for precise fitting.
3. Base Preparation:
   • Strengthening or leveling cabinets can add 1–2 hours to the process.
4. Sealing:
   • Sealing the quartzite post-installation takes an additional 30–60 minutes.

Yes, you can remove a quartzite countertop yourself. However, professional assistance can ensure the process is smooth and damage-free. If needed, explore our curated list of top-rated professionals for countertop fabrication, installation, and removal. Here are the steps to remove a glued quartzite countertop: Disconnect all utilities: Turn off water, electricity, and gas if the countertop is connected to a sink, stove, or other appliances. Loosen the sealant along the edges: Use a sharp knife or blade to cut through the caulking between the countertop and walls/cabinets. This makes detaching the countertop easier. Detach the countertop from the adhesive: Gently pry the countertop from below using a flat pry bar or crowbar. Work gradually along the entire length to prevent chips and cracks. Use an adhesive solvent (if needed): If the adhesive is particularly strong, apply a solvent suitable for stone to weaken the bond. Follow the solvent instructions carefully to avoid damage. Lift and move the countertop: Quartzite is heavy, so you may need assistance. Lift the countertop evenly and slowly to prevent cracks or sudden breaks. Removing a quartzite countertop requires caution due to its weight and durability. If you’re unsure, hiring professionals might be the best option!

The thickness of a granite countertop can vary depending on the individual project. Here are the standard and most popular thicknesses:

• 3/4 inch is a thin option. It is used with additional support or an edge profile to create the appearance of a thicker countertop. Often applied in decorative projects but also suitable for kitchens if a lightweight and elegant look is needed.
• 1 1/4 inch (one and a quarter inches). This is the most popular thickness for kitchen countertops as it provides an optimal combination of durability and visual massiveness. It is more resistant to damage and does not require extra reinforcement.
• 2 inches. This thickness is rare but used to create design accents or unique projects, especially for kitchen islands.

A quartzite countertop is a countertop made from natural quartzite, a metamorphic rock that forms from sandstone under high pressure and temperature. Quartzite is valued for its strength, resistance to scratches, and durability, as well as its unique, natural texture that resembles marble. This makes it an excellent choice for kitchens and bathrooms, as it combines the beauty of marble with the durability of granite. Key features of a quartzite countertop:

• High strength : Quartzite is harder than marble and is almost scratch-resistant.
• Heat resistance : It handles high temperatures well, making it suitable for kitchen countertops.
• Unique appearance : It has natural veins and shades that give the surface a rich texture similar to marble.
• Requires periodic sealing : Although quartzite is less porous than marble, sealing helps protect it from stains.

• Stronger than marble and less porous, making it more resistant to stains.
• Natural beauty : Quartzite has natural textures and color variations that give the interior uniqueness.
• Durability : It is one of the strongest natural stones, ensuring the longevity of the countertop.

Fixing a chip or even cracks on the countertop by yourself may take more time to learn the instructions. To save time, we suggest checking our rating, where you can find contractors who will make the countertop for you and provide maintenance recommendations. Quartzite is a hard material and can be unyielding. Here’s a guide for those who still want to fix chips themselves:

1. Cleaning the chip area: Clean the area from dust and dirt using isopropyl alcohol or a mild solvent to improve the adhesion of the repair material to the surface.
2. Filling the chip with epoxy resin or stone adhesive: Use epoxy resin mixed with a pigment that matches the color of the quartzite. For a more natural result, you can choose several shades if the countertop has veins. Apply the mixture using a toothpick or a small spatula, carefully and evenly filling the chip.
3. Polishing after drying: After it has fully dried (usually 24 hours), gently sand the repair area with fine-grit sandpaper (1000 grit or higher) to smooth it out. Then polish the area to achieve a glossy finish.

To remove a stain from a quartzite countertop, it's important to note that although quartzite is less porous than marble, it still requires a delicate approach to preserve its surface. Here are the main methods for removing different types of stains:

1. Greasy stains (oil, grease) :
   • Baking soda paste : Mix baking soda with water to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to the stain, cover with plastic wrap or a plastic bag, and leave for 12–24 hours. Afterward, gently remove the paste and rinse the surface.
   • Dishwashing liquid : For fresh stains, apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid to a sponge and gently wipe the stain, then rinse with water.
2. Organic stains (coffee, wine, juice) :
   • Hydrogen peroxide (3%) : Soak the stain with hydrogen peroxide and leave for a few minutes. Then wipe with a clean cloth and rinse with water. Hydrogen peroxide helps remove organic stains and is safe for most light-colored quartzites.
   • Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide : Make a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, apply it to the stain, and cover with plastic wrap. Leave overnight.
3. Rust stains :
   • Rust remover products : Use products designed for stone and safe for quartzite. Apply the product according to the instructions and thoroughly rinse with water afterward.
   • Avoid using acids (such as lemon juice or vinegar), as they can damage the surface.
4. Ink or marker stains :
   • Isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) : Soak a cotton pad with alcohol and gently wipe the stain. Then rinse with water.
   • Acetone (if alcohol doesn't work) : You can try using acetone for more stubborn stains, but be sure to rinse with water immediately after treatment.
5. Mineral stains (water, calcium deposits) :
   • Water and alcohol mixture : Wipe the stain with a mixture of water and alcohol in equal parts, then rinse with water.
   • Stone cleaner : Some cleaning products are specially designed to remove mineral deposits on natural stones.

• Use mild cleaning agents and avoid abrasives to prevent surface damage.
• Sealing : Periodic sealing helps prevent stains by protecting the surface from absorbing liquids.
• Test on a hidden area : Before using any cleaning agent, test it on an inconspicuous spot to ensure it's safe for your quartzite.

White with gray veins. This shade is often associated with quartzites like "Super White" and "Taj Mahal." White quartzite with subtle gray or golden veins resembles marble but is stronger and more resistant to damage. Why white quartzite is popular:

• Versatility: White with neutral gray veins suits various interior styles, from classic to modern and minimalist.
• Elegance and light appearance: White quartzite visually expands space and adds lightness.
• Resemblance to marble: Many choose quartzite for countertops to achieve an elegant marble-like appearance, but with greater durability and resistance to stains and scratches.

Caring for a quartzite countertop involves regular cleaning and periodic sealing to protect it from stains and maintain its appearance. Quartzite is durable and resistant to scratches but requires gentle care, similar to other stone surfaces. Key recommendations for caring for a quartzite countertop:

• Daily cleaning: Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and a drop of mild soap or a specialized stone cleaner. Avoid abrasive products and harsh sponges to prevent damaging the sealant or scratching the surface.
• Stain removal: For fresh stains, wipe with a damp cloth and mild cleaning agent. For stubborn stains, such as oil or wine, use a paste of baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stain, cover with plastic wrap, and leave for 12–24 hours before rinsing it off.
• Protection from high temperatures: While quartzite is resistant to high temperatures, it is recommended to use trivets for hot items to avoid damaging the sealant.
• Regular sealing: Quartzite is less porous than marble or granite but still requires sealing approximately once every 1–2 years. This protects the surface from absorbing stains and moisture. To check if sealing is needed, drop some water on the surface. If the water absorbs and darkens, it's time to refresh the sealant.
• Avoid aggressive chemicals: Do not use bleach, vinegar, lemon juice, or ammonia, as they can damage the sealant and leave stains.
